REA Article Look Up is an optional extension for REA Verifiers. The extension includes the following parts:

1) The PC Program part runs under Microsoft Windows. It allows to import and export data. Further data records can be created or modified. The product description can be also being imported or manually created. The final data table can be sent to the REA Verifier.

2) The software extension is available for the REA Verifier types REA ScanCheck 3, REA PC-Scan/LD3 and REA MLV-2D. The Article Look Up function extends the verification with a check if an article code exists, if the code and product layout fits and if dates like best before use or use until within the allowed range. EAN13 Instore codes are checked without taking the variable part into account. Coupon codes can be checked without the variable part or additionally the variable part may be checked against a value in the database.

The basic function of a verifier is to check if the bar code quality is within the specifications of ISO/IEC 15416 and of the symbology standards.
The REA Article Look Up extension checks additionally if the bar code data is valid. 

If the bar cannot be found in the database the complete results fails. The user may check if the article description in the database and on the verified sample is identical.

The verification report states that the code is  known/unknown in the database.

If a verified bar code is in the database then additionally dates, Instore or Coupon code characteristics may be checked.
